Does the 'Legendary Moments' series prove that the league was more competitive back in the 2000s?

I’ve been binge-watching the 'Classic Match' uploads on this channel lately and it’s sparked a huge debate in my head. Looking at the highlights from the mid-2000s, it feels like every game was a war and any team could genuinely beat anyone. Nowadays, the tactical setups are amazing, but does anyone else feel like some of the 'soul' and unpredictability has been coached out of the game? I’d love to see if you lot think a peak 2004 Arsenal or 2008 United would actually survive against the current Man City squad. Is the modern game actually better, or are we just watching more expensive players? What do you think?

I totally get the 'soul' argument, but anyone else noticed that we've traded 'chaos' for 'control'? Watching those mid-2000s clips, it felt like any team with a bit of grit could bully the big boys. Now, in 2026, if you don't have a tactical masterplan, you basically don't touch the ball. Do you guys think the league is actually more 'competitive' now because the technical floor is higher, or was the 2000s peak because the 'war' atmosphere meant anything could happen? What do you think—would a Prime Vidic or Roy Keane even last 20 minutes before getting a VAR red card in today's game?
