Examining the Cadence Shift: From Psychedelic Trap Rhythms to Abstract Vocal Delivery (2013-2018)
A serious discussion on the evolving cadence and production choices utilized by Rocky. If we look specifically at the period between 2013's *Long.Live.A$AP* and 2018's *Testing*, there is a clear move away from the lush, Memphis-inspired psychedelia of songs like 'Goldie' or '1Train.' Instead, *Testing* features much sparser, often dissonant production (e.g., 'Purity' or 'Fukk Sleep'😉. This necessitated a complete reconfiguration of his vocal delivery. Was the resulting experimental flow a genuine creative advancement, or did it occasionally sound disjointed when navigating the more abstract beats? I find his early work had a stronger, more confident rhythmic pocket.
