Do modern games prioritize Accessibility over Mechanical Depth? (GMTK Discussion)
I've been rewatching the episodes on difficulty scaling and tutorials. Anyone else noticed a trend where newer AAA games hold your hand *too* much, maybe sacrificing complex mechanics for the sake of mass market accessibility? Obviously, games need to be accessible, but at what point does design simplification become detrimentally shallow? What do you think about the balance? Which recent game did this balance perfectly, and which one failed?
