Is "slow cinema" just a scam for lazy screenwriters?

Serious question for the intellectuals here: is there a point where "atmospheric storytelling" just becomes a total lack of ideas? I just tried watching a four-hour "masterpiece" where a guy stares at a bowl of soup to represent the vacuum of existence. Is it actually art, or are we all just suffering from a collective case of the Emperor’s New Clothes because we're afraid to look uncultured? At what point does a "contemplative lens" just become a pretentious way to film someone doing absolutely nothing? Change my mind
