I’m genuinely curious why we pay these referees to ruin a perfectly good knockout. If a guy is getting his face rearranged and decides he doesn't want to block anymore, why step in? Isn't the whole point of the sport to see someone actually sleep? People talk about "fighter safety" but honestly, wouldn't it be more entertaining if we just let the guy who's losing figure it out for himself? Is there any actual reason for a standing eight count other than giving the loser a chance to catch more brain damage for another three rounds?
