Is the silent treatment ever a healthy way to deal with conflict?

I’ve been thinking a lot about communication in relationships lately. Do you think that taking a "silent" break during an argument is actually useful to cool off, or is it just a form of emotional manipulation? Some people say it’s a red flag, but others argue it’s better than saying something you’ll regret later. What do you guys think? Is it ever a valid strategy?
