Why do older "janky" shooters feel so much more visceral than modern ones? š«ā¤ļøš„

I've been on a massive kick playing older FPS titles and Resident Evil clones lately, and I'm honestly obsessed with the atmosphere! Thereās something about the clunky mechanics and experimental gore systems in mid-budget "AA" games that makes them so much more satisfying than modern, over-polished shooters. Does anyone have recommendations for hidden gems from the PS2 or early PC era? Iām looking for more stuff like Clive Barkerās Undying or games with unique mechanics like blood-based health reloads or inventory management! I just love that gritty, soul-filled vibe from the late 90s/early 2000s! ā¤ļøš„
