I’ve been living in Germany for a long time now, and I find myself reminiscing about how quiet and strictly observed Sundays used to feel. Nowadays, even though the shops are still closed, the atmosphere feels different—busier, less of a "Ruhetag."
For those of you who moved here years ago, how has your perspective on German culture shock changed over time? I remember struggling so much with the Pfand system and the complexity of the recycling rules at first, but now they feel like second nature. Does the "magic" of the cultural transition ever wear off, or do you eventually just stop noticing the quirks altogether? I'd love to hear how your experience with integration has evolved compared to when you first arrived
Does anyone else miss the old German Sundays?
