Is the ‘Gold Point’ actually good for the professional game?
I’ve been following the recent tournaments closely and I’m still torn on the ‘Punto de Oro’ (Gold Point) rule. On one hand, it definitely speeds up the matches for the broadcast and adds a massive amount of tension to the game. On the other hand, it feels like it robs us of those epic, grinding deuce battles that really show a team's mental strength and tactical grit. Does anyone else feel like it makes the sport a bit more of a coin toss, or is it a necessary evolution to make the professional tour more commercially viable? I’d love to hear whether you think the pro tour should stick with it or return to traditional scoring
